How to Measure Bags and Pouches
How to Measure Bags and Pouches
No single standard size suits every project. Clear measurements help compare quotations and prevent a bag that looks correct on screen from being too small for the actual contents.
Discuss your bag requirement
Measurement order
Record width, height and depth or gusset with the unit. Distinguish external measurements from usable space. Flat pouches, gusseted totes and round laundry bags cannot be compared from width and height alone. For round bases, record diameter and usable height separately. Add a sketch if needed so the supplier can identify where each measurement begins and ends.
Opening allowance
Seams, lining, zippers and cord channels reduce space. Measure the largest item including packaging. Check the opening as well as body size if access is narrow. Rigid boxes fit differently from soft garments. Allow for the way items are inserted and removed, not only their resting position inside the bag. A filled sample is useful where the fit is close.
Handles and pockets
Record handle drop above the opening and intended shoulder or hand carrying. Add pocket dimensions for specific items. For laundry bags, describe filled handling and closure. Dimensions do not establish a carrying weight without construction and evidence. Clarify whether a handle measurement describes the full strap before stitching or the exposed section; the two are not interchangeable.
Sample approval
Fill the sample realistically, close it and lift it normally. Check handles, seams and logo placement for interference. Agree dimensional tolerances instead of assuming exact measurements across all pieces. Send SKU, sizes, quantity and UAE city with the enquiry; custom sizing and samples require confirmation. Keep the approved drawing and filled-sample observations together when requesting a repeat of the design.
For sets containing several items, test the complete set rather than only the largest piece. Internal arrangement can affect closure, balance and access even when each individual item fits within the stated dimensions.
